Top Reviews in the Halliday Wine Companion 2024
We are excited to announce that Thalia has been highly reviewed in the Halliday Wine Companion with the 2024 results released today.
The winery was given a 4 Black Star rating, which is given to wineries that are "knocking on the door of a 5-star rating". With the Thalia sparkling wines only released last year, this is a huge achievement for this young, up-and-coming Tasmanian label. The Halliday team described the swift success of Thalia when they said:
"Thalia is the entry-level non-vintage brand of the Fogarty Wine Group’s Tasmanian sparkling operation, sister label to its more premium Lowestoft brand. Pinot Noir takes the lead in each blend, supported largely by Chardonnay, sourced from across the length and breadth of Tasmania, with a Reserve Cuvée hailing exclusively from a cool, coastal site on the Tasman Peninsula. A serious newcomer to the Tasmanian sparkling set, crafting cuvées of this calibre in an inaugural release is no simple undertaking, and it’s no surprise that Tasmanian sparkling queen Natalie Fryar is consulting in the sidelines. Watch this space."
We also received some excellent reviews in the Companion. The NV Rosé was awarded 94 points and highly reviewed:
"A Pinot Noir-dominant blend with 36 months on lees and a dosage of just over 8 g/L. The palest of blushes in the glass with aromas of red apple, cranberry and raspberry along with hints of tart tartin, biscuity spice, roasted cashews, lemon butter, white flowers and stone. There is lovely red-fruited richness and a swell of biscuity complexity that expands before being reeled in by crystalline acidity scooting off for a sustained finish."
Alongside a fantastic review, our NV Reserve Cuvée was awarded 93 points:
"NV sparkling from 83/17% Chardonnay/Pinot Noir from several Tasmanian growing areas (45/35/20% Tasman Peninsula/Coal River Valley/ Huon Valley); fermented in seasoned French oak, 46 months on lees. Light straw with an energetic bead and characters of green apple and citrus fruits along with creamy, biscuity tones and hints of white flowers, fresh brioche, grilled almonds, apple pastries and soft spice. Bright with a biscuity edge, a light gingerbread note and a creamy lemon curd note on the sustained finish."
A huge congratulations to Chief Winemaker Liam McElhinney, Viticulturist Fred Peacock and the winery and vineyard teams in Tasmania on these wonderful results.
